Wellington Rd, E11

This semi-detached Edwardian house in Wanstead had previously been extended by our clients to provide an additional bedroom in the loft space for their expanding family. They now wanted to extend and remodel the ground floor of their home to create a large multi functional space, incorporating kitchen, dining & sitting areas.

Our clients also wanted to a strong spatial connection between the new internal spaces and the garden. We fitted a sliding door system that peels back to create a very large opening into the garden area.

Bringing in as much natural light into the new interior spaces was an important feature of the design proposal. This was achieved by extending the existing kitchen sideways and installing a patent glazing roof system to the side return.

To achieve a contemporary finish to the kitchen, we used purpose 30mm Iroko timber worktops laid on IKEA White Abstract high gloss units. The stainless steel appliances were from Smeg. We contrasted the precision machine made polished worktops and kitchen units with a more natural floor finish of riven rustic pearl natural slate laid in an interlocking pattern.
