The Drive, E4
This large Edwardian house in North Chingford was listed as building of special architectural interest by Waltham Forest Council. This meant that the local planning authority took a very close interest in how the proposed development engaged with the traditional building fabric of the existing house.
Our clients wanted to create a very modern feel to the new spaces as a counterpoint to the existing structure. This was achieved by forming a single storey rear extension with large areas of glazing to the newly landscape garden space. A small courtyard yard garden mediates between the new and old structures.
The kitchen furniture and other joinery items was purpose made by Luke Thompson of Thompson Brothers Ltd. We worked together with our clients to produce a very personalised bespoke solution. We mixed lacquered paint base units with wall units finished in a Walnut veneer. The worktops are in Verde granite stone.
The new extension provides a large working kitchen space and associated dining area connected to the main house via a glazed link leading to a refurbished living area. The living room contains a recessed ribbon fireplace from CVO with inset plasma screen above. The cupboards to the chimneybreast alcoves are in a Walnut finish and slide upwards to reveal shelving units and audio equipment.
