Our Client for this project wanted to totally transform the existing two up two down Victorian cottage that he had been living in for many years.

After discussing the scope of the works with him, it soon became apparent that a more cost effective solution would be to move house rather than to renovate the property. However, his long term partner lived in the house next door; he was a keen gardener and had grown emotionally involved with his garden as well as not wanting to move from the area he had become attached to.

The building was in a very poor condition in terms of the building fabric and services. We completely gutted the house internally, removing all the floor and ceiling structures as well as the staircases, joinery items, doors, kitchen and bathroom. All the plaster was live and had to be removed back to bear brickwork. The enabling works included demolition of a defective lean-to extension to the rear.

The new works consisted of adding an extra bedroom at loft level, bathroom renewal, we used accent colours to emphasis internal elements such us chimneybreasts and stairwells and at ground floor level we added a large multi function extension incorporating kitchen, dining and living spaces.

The use of natural materials include European solid Oakwood floor, rustic-pearl riven – finish slate and light Oak worktops. The kitchen furniture is IKEA White, High Gloss – Abstract range. We used a sloping patent glazing system to the side of property to bring in lots of natural light to the working part of the kitchen area.

The sitting & TV area contains a plasma screen above contemporary gas fire and has French doors that look out onto a peaceful secluded garden to the rear of the property.
